There is always a lot of fuss around the new year. Who doesn’t love a fresh start? This year, I think we were all looking forward to a change because 2021, like 2020, was hard on all of us.
Now that we’re nearing the end of January, I keep hearing the same question:
What do you want 2022 to look like for you?
I don’t know about you, but with all of the changes happening around us, I know that us working moms, the caretakers, we need to leave behind the guilt that we feel toward our families and our employers.
I’ve worked with a lot of working moms on releasing “mom guilt” and finding new ways to adapt to the “new normal” (you know, having to leave work right now because daycare called and everyone was exposed to COVID). And while every story is different, most all struggle with the same things. So when it comes to thinking about what I want working moms like you to be totally done with? That’s easy for me to share.
I want you to leave behind the guilt you feel when you have to leave work early again.
I want you to leave behind the guilt you skip making dinner because you’re mentally exhausted again.
That means no more apologizing for things out of your control.
My wish for you, and for all of us, is a year full of saying no when you need to, flexibility at work and home, while still hitting your career milestones.
It’s the new year. What are YOU officially leaving behind in 2021? It’s okay if you haven’t left it behind yet. You can start right now.
There’s no way to be a perfect working mama, but there are a million ways to be a good one.
